As a part of my annual collaboration I co-delivered The Politics & Potential of Sport Workshop with the University of Texas in Austin! Yet again the international collaboration of academics, activists’, athletes and policy makers were absolutely incredible and very knowledgeable. Highlights included an emotive speech from US NBA player and athlete activist Etan Thomas on the responsibility and privilege of speaking out for those who aren’t able to, to expert Katrina Karkazis breaking down transgender and intersex rights in sport and Shireen Ahmed poetically talked to intersectionality within sport. I moderated the transgender and intersex discussion and made my input into the Rio 2016 Olympic Games discussion. Read the summary document here. UT Workshop 2016 Summary. docx

Whilst I was in Texas the South by South West (SXSW) Festival took place. I was part of a SXSW panel alongside Jules Boykoff and other experts on the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and the machinery of the Mega-Sport Event Great, listen at 27:50 http://bit.ly/1Pmt8r8. President Barack Obama was also there delivering a speech on civic engagement the 21st century. Our panel was slightly delayed as it was scheduled just before President Obama’s! I can now always say I shared the same lineup as the US president! The rest of SXSW festival vibe was a great experience and I loved hearing from Brene Brown, Rhonda Rousey, Kerry Washington and Henry Louis Gates.
