The Sports People’s Think Tank Research Launch, House of Commons
I attended the House of Commons on 10th November 2014 to hear about the launch of the Sports People’s Think Tank (SPTT) and their research on ethnic minorities and coaching in elite level football. The research was written by respected academic, Dr Stephen Bradbury. Read this valuable research here http://www.farenet.org/news/report-finds-shockingly-low-levels-minorities-coaching/
The headline statistic from the report is that only 3.4%(19/552) of senior football coaching positions are from people from Black and Minority Ethnic minority backgrounds.
This was an important launch attended by Helen Grant the Sports Minister and those working in sport to challenge discrimination. Presentations from Jason Roberts, Michael Johnson and Professor Bradbury highlighted the key recommendations needed by all stakeholders to lead to greater diversity in football.
The SPTT collaborated with the FARE network for this important study. The SPTT comprises of current and former athletes offering thought leadership on topical issues from a unique position within the sports industry. SPTT is striving to help find solutions to a number of varying challenges and issues sport faces with proactive independent thinking.
